On Tuesday I reported to the Westminster Court House for jury duty. The timing was actually good for my current schedule so I was ready to spend a few days there. I find the whole process pretty interesting. They seated 18 prospective jurors at a time to ask them each a list of questions. The judge went first, asking the same list of questions: city where you live, marital status, occupation, etc. Once he had gone though the group with his questions, each attorney had a chance to ask questions. The defense attorney would set up scenarios and then randomly ask rhetorical questions about how an individual would view that situation. One such scenario began with him asking the group to raise their hand if they had ever bought or sold a house. Only 6 hands went up from the 18 people sitting there!
I instinctively grabbed my purse to pull out my business cards! Fortunately, I was able to restrain myself from rushing forward and handing them out. The bailiff may have gotten a little excited if I had done that! But I am a firm believer in home ownership--particularly in the Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley area.
These people came from various cities nearby and I could have helped any one of them begin the path to home ownership. While I work mainly selling Huntington Beach homes and Fountain Valley homes, I have sold in most surrounding cities. I have also done transactions in some cities further away, including Corona, Chino Hills and Temecula.
Back to jury duty, after my turn at being questioned, I was excused. They tell you that you may be excused for any number of reasons and there is no way of knowing why. But I think I could have been, fair and looked at things objectively. But we won't know for sure this time. I don't think I would have even handed out business cards to fellow jurors if I had made it to that point...unless, of course, they had asked. But we won't know for sure--this time--on that either.
